What is an initial consultation with a lawyer?
The initial consultation is the first meeting between you and a lawyer. Its purpose is to understand your situation, assess the legal circumstances, and provide you with specific recommendations for action. At the end of the meeting, you will know your legal position and what steps are possible or necessary next.
The initial consultation does not constitute a mandate. After the discussion, you are free to decide whether and how to proceed – without preconditions or pressure.
Do you have a specific question? Get in touch now – we'll discuss together what the next step is for you.
We will take care of your case – quickly & with commitment.
When is an initial consultation advisable?
An initial consultation is always advisable if you are unsure whether and what legal steps you should take. Typical reasons include:
- Received notice of termination: You have received a notice of termination and are unsure whether it is valid. The three-week deadline stipulated in Section 4 of the German Protection Against Unfair Dismissal Act (KSchG) begins upon receipt of the notice – those who miss this deadline lose their right to file a lawsuit.
- Contract dispute: A contractual partner is not fulfilling their obligations, or you have signed a contract whose consequences you are only now becoming aware of.
- Damage claim: You have suffered damage – through an accident, faulty service or a defective product – and are wondering who is liable.
- Fraud or deception: They believe they have become victims of a fraudulent activity – through dubious investment products, crypto fraud or online fraud.
- Inheritance dispute: A death often leads to uncertainties about inheritance or disputes among heirs.
- Official decision: An authority has made a decision that you believe is unlawful, and you would like to know if you can challenge it.
In all these situations, the earlier you seek legal advice, the more options will be available to you.
Does this situation sound familiar? An initial consultation will provide clarity.

Simple, convenient & fast – we enforce your rights.
Assess the facts
The lawyer will record your account, ask specific follow-up questions, and ask you to have relevant documents ready – contracts, letters, notices, or messages.
1Legal classification
Based on your description, here is an initial assessment: Which legal standards apply? What claims exist or are threatened? How realistic is legal enforcement?
2Options for action
You will receive concrete options: out-of-court settlement, warning letter, lawsuit, injunction, or another course of action. The lawyer will explain the advantages and disadvantages – objectively and without beating around the bush.
3How to prepare for your initial consultation
Good preparation saves time and increases the benefit of the meeting. Please bring the following documents with you, if available:
- Correspondence: All relevant letters, emails and messages – preferably in chronological order.
- Contracts and agreements: Complete contract documents including attachments and terms and conditions.
- Notices and decisions: Official letters, judgments or decisions that concern your case.
- Deadlines and dates: Note when each letter was received – deadlines can determine victory or defeat.
In addition to the documents, a brief written summary of your request will be helpful: What happened? What do you want to achieve? How long has the problem existed?
Still unsure what's relevant? Give us a call – we'll explain which documents you need.
After the initial consultation – what happens next?
The initial consultation provides you with a sound basis for your own decision: to act or wait? To settle out of court or to sue? You alone make this decision – without pressure.
